After serving in the U.S. Army as a medic Shellye Tow pursued her love of art. She graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Art in Photography from The Art Institute in Dallas in September 2017. She is currently pursuing a MFA in Studio Arts with an emphasis in photography and concurrently pursuing a MA in Art History. The overarching theme of her work is the human experience. She explores the world from the human perspective as we move through life. She focuses on human experiences that can be shared by the masses such as life, death, emotion, space, nature and the physical properties of our existence.

In addition to being an art maker she is an art historian as well. She is currently working on her Master of Art in Art History. Her research dives into the history of photography and its place in society as part of a visual and material culture.
